Awaken as the dawn swells in yellows and oranges behind the eastern point of Camaronal Beach. The howler monkeys dismiss the crepuscle as morning bird surfers race baby turtles across the sandy beach for their morning taste of the invigorating spume as glassy waves peal off iconic curls and rip across the horizon.

Camaronal Beach is the home to the Camaronal National Wildlife Refuge and one of the most sought-after technical beach breaks in Guanacaste. The wee country hamlet of less than 100 homo sapiens sapiens has far greater numbers of coati, jaguarundi, white-tailed deer, scarlet macaw, raccoons, howler monkeys, toucans, and an arboretum of tropical trees, ornamentals and fruit trees.

A scant ten-minute drive from Estrada and its groceries and fuel, Camaronal is just fifteen minutes away from Puerto Carrillo and its iconic swimming beach and twenty from Samara, the undisputed ecotourism mecca of the mid-Pacific Nicoya coastline.

Casa Magna is the undisputed king of the local vacation rentals. Boasting expansive views of the beach and the mountains behind, it has four large bedrooms, each air conditioned, each with its own closet area, three with ensuite bathrooms, a large living room and dining area, a complete kitchen, and a coral-tile finished party deck and swimming pool with a little happy hour palapa. Casa Magna has extensive glass windows on the lower parts of its cathedral-roofed walls, but screened windows on the top to keep the house permanently washed in the back and forth of onshore and offshore breezes, keeping the house cool in the day and even a bit chilly in the pre-dawn symphony of monkeys, wind, and the ballet of palm leaves just outside. Shrouded with trees, it boasts luxuriant lawn and fresh crisp offshore Guanacaste breezes from November through May and spectacular afternoon rains the rest of the year. With three sets of sliding glass doors, the living room is a step down from the back patio and party deck, and the two ground level rooms also have sliding glass doors, all new, all with screens, of course.

Expect one million channels on our 70” screen and 20 megs of rip-snorting broadband as well as all the kitchen amenities you are likely to wish for, plus service for eight and a large outdoor dining table as well as an indoor breakfast bar. Hot water is de rigeur, and the home is fully lighted with fans in every room. Each room also has its own desk and desk lamp. All linens are new and each table has two bedside tables, all finished in pochote and cocobolo.

The master bedroom has a king-size bed, larger L-shaped desk, ensuite bathroom, full closet, and a walled window and sliding glass door stepping down into the pool area on one side, and sliding double-pained windows on the other for soothing cross-winds.

Ideal for a family of 6-8, Casa Magna can sleep up to ten people but also makes a superb little manse for that frisky couple wanting to have it all. The home is located inside the immaculate gated “community” (two other houses) of La Reserva Camaronal and has full-time farm manager, a keypad entrance, parking for three at the house, grounds maintenance. We also have domestic assistance if you wish to have regular cleaning and cooking support or full catering for select or all meals, should that be of interest.

$200 per night up to four guests, $50 per person beyond four, or a flat $2500 per week for up to eight guests.
